Detailed Solution

The English Education act was introduced in 1835. Thomas Babington Macaulay, with great passion, emphasised the need to teach the English language, which would allow Indians to read some of the finest literature the world had produced. He believed that English teaching would be handy to civilise people and change their tastes, values and culture. The colonial government introduced The English Education Act of 1835, following Macaulay's ideas. The Act made English the medium of instruction for higher education. It also stopped the promotion of Oriental institutions like the Calcutta Madrasa and Benaras Sanskrit College.
