The Estates-General was elected by the National Assembly of active citizens.
The revolution led to the transfer of sovereignty from the monarchy to a group of French citizens. The revolution declared that the people would make up the country and determine its destiny. The new French flag, the Tricolor, has been chosen to replace the old royal flag. The Estates-General was elected by an active civil society and renamed the Diet. A new chant was created, an oath was made, and the martyr was commemorated. All this was done in the name of the country.
The local dialect was discouraged and spoken and written in Paris, making French the national language. The revolutionaries further declared that it was the mission and destiny of the French people to free the Europeans from tyranny, in other words, to help others in Europe become a nation.
