Detailed Solution

The European governments adopted Conservatism after Napoleon's defeat in 1815. They supported it to protect the well-established, conventional institutions of the state and society, such as the monarchy, the church, social hierarchies, property and the family. Some people were opposed to implementing the pre-revolutionary system. They preferred Napoleonic reforms and modernisation instead because they believed these would help strengthen existing institutions and state power and increase its effectiveness. Conservatives started to think that eradicating feudalism and serfdom, a modern army, an effective administration, a vibrant economy, and many other factors would strengthen the aristocratic kingdoms of Europe.
