Detailed Solution

The evolution of the courts in India started in 1862. It started when the first High Courts were established in the British Provinces of Calcutta, Bombay, and Madras. These were found under British rule. The Supreme Court in present India originated from the Federal Court of India, established by the British government in 1937. This Federal Court functioned until 1949. After that, the Supreme Court of independent India was established on January 26, 1950, when India became a republic. The Delhi High Court was established in 1966. Currently, there is one Supreme Court, 25 High Courts at the state and UTs, and several subordinate courts at the district and village levels in India.
