Stem tendrils which develop from axillary buds, are slender and spirally coiled and help plants to climb such as in gourds (cucumber, pumpkins, watermelon) and in grapevine terminal bud is modified into tendril. Leaves are often modified to perform functions other than photosynthesis. Upper leaflets of pinnately compound leaves are converted into tendrils for climbing as in peas.
