Permutit is the zeolite (or sodium aluminum silicate) having the formula ${\mathrm{Na}}_2{\mathrm{Al}}_2{\mathrm{Si}}_2{\mathrm{O}}_8·{\mathrm{xH}}_2\mathrm{O}.$ Exhausted permutit is defined as the impure permutit or impure zeolite where sodium is replaced by calcium ions, ${\mathrm{CaAl}}_2{\mathrm{Si}}_2{\mathrm{O}}_8·{\mathrm{xH}}_2\mathrm{O}.$ Exhausted permutit is regenerated by 10%NaCl (or brine solution).
