Detailed Solution

The fall of the Jacobin government allowed the wealthier middle class to seize power.
With the elimination of the radical political leader Maximilian Robespierre in July 1794, the prominence of the extreme poor sections of the society, especially the Jacobins, declined, and the wealthier areas of the community came to wield power. As a result, the government became undemocratic, with restrictions on voting rights and the leaders belonging to the more affluent middle classes. Two legislative councils came into existence, and the executive powers were vested in the Directory comprising five members. But increasing instability and unpopularity of this government created a situation where it was easy for the military dictator Napoleon Bonaparte to establish his rule.
