Detailed Solution

Carbonic anhydrase enzyme present in the erythrocytes catalyzes the formation of carbonic acid from CO2  and H2O and its dissociation into H+ and HCO3- at tissues. It also catalyzes the reverse reactions at the lungs. ‘C’ is alveolar epithelium (not endothelium which is the epithelium of the blood capillary). Exchange of gases occurs not only in the alveoli but also in the respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts and at systemic tissues. Pulmonary capillary drains oxygenated blood into the pulmonary vein (not the pulmonary artery)
