Creating and linguistic states was the first and major challenge for democratic politics in our country.
The boundaries of some existing Indian states were modified in 1947 to form new States. This step was taken to keep people in the same province who spoke the same language. Some states were to recognise differences in culture, race or location rather than language. The earlier government rejected the idea of reorganisation based on language. After several agitations in 1953, Andhra Pradesh was the first state formed based on language.
