Detailed Solution

The first and only Indian who flew in space was Rakesh Sharma.
Rakesh Sharma was the first Indian to enter space in 1984, and he is still the only Indian citizen to have done so. The retired Air Force pilot flew aboard the Soyuz T-11 spacecraft as part of a joint Indian-Soviet program and orbited Earth for nearly eight days. Notably, Indian-origin Sunita Williams and India-born late Kalpana Chawla flew into space as American astronauts.
