In Kolkata, the first cotton mill was built in India.
In 1818, Fort Glastor, which is close to Kolkata, became India's first cotton textile mill. In Mumbai, large-scale cotton production first began in 1854. The second facility, built by KGN Daber in 1854, is regarded as the actual birthplace of India's modern cotton industry. Bombay Spinning & Weaving Company was its name.
