The first effective fuel-burning engine was created in 1712 by Newcomen. He developed the atmospheric steam engine. This steam engine inspired James Watt's steam engine. James Watt analysed Newcomen's engine. The first effective fuel-burning engine was created in 1712 by Newcomen. Newcomen's engine was the first practical device to use steam to generate mechanical work. James Watt was a well-known mechanical engineer and inventor from Scotland. In 1776, Watt developed a better steam engine than Newcomen's. As a result of his research into this engine, James Watt was able to quadruple the fuel efficiency of Newcomen's design. A large number of atmospheric engines adopted Watt's model of engines. When it comes to the invention of the steam engine, Watt is today more well-known than Newcomen.
