Detailed Solution

The first European style hand press was found in Japan. In 1848, the first hand press of European design, with Western moveable type and Western printing ink, arrived in Nagasaki, Japan for use by the Japanese. Prior to this, the Tensh embassy introduced the first Western-style moveable type printing press to Japan in 1590, and it was first used in Kazusa, NagasakiOffsite Link, in 1591. However, following the 1614 ban on Christianity, western-style printing was abandoned in Japan. To imitate their semi-cursive lettering, the Japanese preferred woodblock printing. Due to the requirement to massage the paper's back with a hand tool, East Asian woodblock printing is still a difficult, hand-operated procedure that prints on just one side of the paper.
