The first industry to grow under the British Government’s protection was the Calico printing industry. The Britishers banned Chintz in 1720 through the Act of Calico act. Chintz was used for printed, painted, or stained calicoes produced in India between 1600 and 1800. It’s a plain woven cotton fabric. After that, under government security, the calico printing industry was set up and became the first industry to grow under the British government’s protection in India. Indian style and painting designs were imitated and printed on a white, sometimes unbleached tissue in the calico printing industry.
