Detailed Solution

The first jute mill in India was set up in 1855.
The Acland Mill was India's first jute mill to open. George Acland, a British industrialist, and Babu Bysumber Sen, a Bengali banker, established this mill at Rishra, Bengal Presidency, British India, in 1855. It was constructed in Kolkata next to the Hooghly River. Because the raw materials needed to make jute were close by, Kolkata was the best place to start a jute mill at the time. In addition, this city was ideal because it had an adequate labour supply, plenty of coal for power, and was the best location for shipping to global markets.
