Detailed Solution

Hicky's Bengal Gazette was the first newspaper issued in India.
As the Original Calcutta General Advertiser, Hicky's Bengal Gazette was well known. It was an English language weekly founded by James Augustus Hicky, an eccentric Irishman. The newspaper was published in Calcutta, the colonial capital of India at the time. Hicky's Bengal Gazette was published for two years, from 1780 to 1782. Then, the newspaper's printing press and styles were subsequently seized by the East India Company.
