The first rebellion took place in Bastar in the 20th century.
The Adivasi people of the princely state of Bastar in central India staged the Bastar Rebellion, sometimes referred to as the Bhumika (earthquake), in 1910, during the 20th century, against the British Raj. It was principally commanded by the tribal chieftain Gunda Dhur and Lal Narendra Singh, a diwan and the king's cousin. Unfortunately, the state's small, 250-person police force was completely overrun by the tribal mobilisation, which resulted in widespread rioting, looting, and burning. As a result, the state revolted against the British colonial administration. But by the end of February, more forces from the nearby Jeypore anstoppedput a stop to the uprising and captured its commanders.
