The 831 elected members of Parliament drafted a constitution for the German nation, which would be led by a monarchy subject to a Parliament. But Friedrich Wilheim IV of Prussia declined the offer and joined with opposition monarchs. However, the Parliament was dominated by the middle class, who resisted the demands of the artisans and workers. Finally, the assembly lost its support and was forced to disband when the troops were called in.
