Detailed Solution

Spinning was the first stage of production, which women primarily did. The charkha and takli were commonplace spinning machines. The thread was rolled on the takli after being spun on the charkha. When the spinning was finished, the weaver turned the thread into cloth. Most often, men performed the task of weaving in communities. The thread was dyed by the rangrez, or dyer, for coloured textiles. The weavers required the assistance of specialised block printers known as chhipi cars for printed cloth. For millions of Indians, handloom weaving and related jobs were a source of income.
