The first textile mill was established in Kolkata.
It was also known as Bowreah Cotton mill. It was established in 1818, but the mill was unsuccessful and closed after some time. The mill failed due to a shortage of raw materials. In 1854, a second textile mill was established in Tardeo, Mumbai. It was the cotton textile industry. It became the first successful textile mill in India and was established by Cowasji Nanabhai Davar.
