Liberalism and nationalism were increasingly connected with the revolution in many areas of Europe as conservative regimes sought to solidify their authority in Europe after the Vienna Congress of 1815. Professors, school teachers, clerks, and members of the commercial middle classes were among the educated middle-class elite who spearheaded these revolutions as liberal nationalists. France saw the first uprising in July 1830. The liberal revolutionaries who formed a constitutional monarchy with Louis Philippe as its leader in France overthrew the Bourbon kings who had returned to power after the conservative reaction following the 1815 Congress.
