Detailed Solution

The first war of independence in India was the Revolt of 1857.
British rule in India was established in the 18th century. Since then, there have been many revolts and movements by the natives. These revolts, however, were designed to put specific demands in front of the British. But the Revolt of 1857 is considered the popular one that aimed to remove British rule. Many regions experienced the rebellion, and it posed a massive threat to the existence of the British government. It proved to be a big jolt to colonial rule. It is regarded as the first popular rebellion aimed at attaining independence. VD Savarkar termed it the "first war of independence".
