Detailed Solution

The first weekly paper published in India was Bengal Gazette.
A weekly magazine called the Bengal Gazette, billed as a commercial paper open to everybody but influenced by none, was first edited by James August Hickey in 1780. They started printing in English in India since it was a private English company proud of its independence from colonial influence. There were several printed newspapers and journals at the end of the eighteenth century. After that, they started publishing Indian publications and were dressed in native attire. The first weekly newspaper was published by Gangadhar Bhattacharya, a close friend of Ram Mohan Roy.
