Detailed Solution

The First World War was fought between the Central Powers and the Allies. It was caused by the conflict between the two heavily armed camps of European powers, the Triple Entente and Triple Alliance, sometimes known as the Central Powers. The Central Powers, which included Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Ottoman Turkey, stood in contrast to the Allies, which initially consisted of Britain, France, and Russia and subsequently had the US. The Allies won the First World War on November 11, 1918, following four years of fighting. It began on July 28, 1914. The peace pact known as the Treaty of Versailles ended World War I while paving the way for World War II.
