The Allies and the Central Powers fought the First World War.
The rivalry between the two strong-armed camps of the European powers- the Triple alliance and triple Entente or the Central Powers, resulted in the first world war. The Allies included Britain, France and Russia and were later joined by the US. The Central Powers included- Germany, Austria-Hungary and Ottoman Turkey. The first world war lasted from 28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918, and the Allies achieved victory after four years of combat. The treaty of Versailles, or The peace treaty, ended World war I, but it also set the stage for world war II.
