The First Year plan was announced in 1950.
Lifting India out of poverty was yet another task in front of the national leaders of India post-independence. To do this, the government of independent India set up a Planning Commission in the year 1950 under which it decided to discuss short and long-term economic planning. In 1950, the First Five Year Plan was announced. The First Five Year Plan focused dominantly on the primary or the agriculture sector. The majority of the population was dependent on agriculture for their survival. A majority of the population was directly or indirectly engaged in the agriculture sector and hence it was only wise to develop the agriculture sector to boost economic development.
