SiO2 which is commonly called silica. It is used as an acidic flux during the extraction of copper from copper ores. 

In blast furnaces, copper ore called copper pyrite is smelted to obtain copper, and silica is used as flux. 

FeO is the impurities present in copper ore and flux SiO2 reacts with impurities to form slag which is FeSiO3. 

SiO2 is the flux used in the extraction of copper.
