Detailed Solution

In the 1780s, Bombay and Calcutta grew as trading ports in India.
The image marks the decline of the old trading order under the Mughals, Dutch, and French and the growth of the colonial economy. The Indian economy was integrated with the global economy through the British Empire. During such times, the ports and trading centres become essential. Bombay and Calcutta were the centres for cotton and jute textiles, respectively. Both places were industrial hubs and attracted workers and labourers from overseas and within the country. Because they were ports and textile centres, these characteristics brought importance to them, and they rose as trade centres and ports.
