Detailed Solution

The food procured by the Food Corporation of India is distributed through fair-price shops among the poor is called the public distribution system.
Under the public distribution system, there is no discrimination between poor and non-poor people for food grains. The government regulated a chain of ration shops to distribute basic food and non-food commodities to low-income people at subsidised prices.
There is another system known as TPDS (Targeted Public distribution system). The government announced a different price for the people below the poverty line, known as BPL, and those within the poverty line. Some schemes were launched for the poor such as the Antyodayo anna yojana and Annapurna scheme. These schemes were launched in December 2000.
