Detailed Solution

Concept- The reciprocal of time is frequency. And we are all aware that the unit of time is the second (s) . Thus, we can find the frequency's unit by using its mathematical expression. To determine the frequency of sound waves, we must first understand what sound waves are. Sound waves are the disturbances caused by the vibrating source as it travels through the medium. When a particle in the medium causes neighbouring particles to move, this causes similar motion in others. The disturbance that is carried forward, not the particles of medium, moves forward. Because this is what happens during sound propagation, sound can be visualised as a wave. For example, if we vibrate a bell, the vibration pushes the air near it, increasing particle density or increasing pressure; this region of high pressure is known as compression (C) . Rarefaction occurs when the bell moves backward, creating a region of low pressure or density (R) . This produces a sound wave that travels through the medium. The distance between two consecutive compressions (C) and rarefactions (R) is known as wavelength, and it is represented by λ . T represents the time between two consecutive Compression (C) and Rarefaction (R) events. In sound waves, when the density of the medium reaches its maximum and then falls to its minimum, it creates a complete oscillation. The frequency of a sound wave is defined as the number of oscillations per unit time.
As a result, you can now say that the frequency unit is cycles per second or per second. The SI unit of frequency is named after physicist Heinrich Rudolph Hertz, who worked on electromagnetic theory and sound waves (Hz) .
Hence, option 4 is the correct answer.
