Detailed Solution

FIR stands for First Information Report. An FIR, a document, lists the key components of a criminal offence. Remember that an FIR is not uncontested proof of a person's crime. The filing of an FIR initiates an investigation into a specific violation. It can be filed either verbally or in writing. A report may be filed by the victim, a witness, or anybody with knowledge of the incident. When someone provides information on a cognisable offence, the manager of a police station is expected to file an FIR. It includes a summary of the events and the offence's date, time, and location. The police are compelled by law to deliver a free copy of the FIR to the complainant. The police only begin their investigation after an FIR is filed.
