PDS means the Public Distribution System, which was launched as an initiative by the government to provide food to the needy sections of society at subsidised rates. The state purchases the items from the centre at the centrally issued price, and then the state bears and takes the responsibility of transporting all of these to the godowns and then from there to the fair price shops or the ration shops, where anyone who has a ration card will be provided with the essentials like food grains, cooking fuel, and so on at cheaper prices.
