The shepherds spent their winters in the Shivalik range's lower hills when the high mountains were covered in snow. Their flocks grazed in the arid shrub woodlands there. They travelled north in April and spent the summer in Lahaul and Spiti. Many travelled to the high alpine pastures after the snow melted and the high pass cleared. They begin their comeback campaign in September. The Gaddi shepherds stopped in the villages of Lahaul and Spiti again on the way, reaping their summer crop and showing their winter crop.
