Detailed Solution

The Ganga-Brahmaputra delta is known as the Sunderban delta.
The right and left bank tributaries enlarge the Ganga river with their water. Till Farakka in West Bengal, the Ganga river flows eastward, forming the northernmost point of the Ganga delta. The Ganga river experiences a bifurcation here, the Bhagirathi-Hooghly, which are the distributary of river Ganga, flowing southwards through the deltaic plains to the Bay of Bengal. Joined by the river Brahmaputra the mainstream flows southwards into Bangladesh. It is then known as Meghna downstream. With waters from the Ganga and the Brahmaputra, this mighty river flows into the Bay of Bengal, forming the Sunderban Delta. The name Sunderban has been taken from the name of the Sundari tree, which is popular for growing very well in marshland areas.
