The Germany Republic was called the Weimar Republic.
The abdication of the emperor and the defeat of Imperial Germany enabled parliamentary parties to recast German polity. The Parliamentary parties met at Weimar to establish the Germany Republic. Thus, it came to be called the Weimar Republic. Based on universal votes cast by adults, deputies were elected to the Reichstag. The Weimar Republic was not accepted by its people because it was forced to pay for the sins of the old empire. It was expected to follow terms put forth by the Treaty of Versailles. The nation had to pay a compensation of 6 billion pounds. Germany lost 13 percent of its territories and overseas colonies. The country was demilitarised, and the Allied tried to weaken its powers. Many Germans asserted that the Weimar Republic was responsible for the country’s defeat in the war and its disgrace at Versailles.
