The given diagram shows the rectilinear propagation of light.
The property of light travelling in straight lines in a homogeneous transparent medium is called rectilinear propagation of light.
Let's take three rectangular pieces of cardboard, A, B, and C, and make a hole at the same horizontal level. Then, with the help of a wooden stand, as shown in the diagram. First, we make a stand parallel to each other with holes in the same straight line. Next, we place a light source, for example, a candle piece, so the light is visible through the hole at A. Now, we move cardboard B, so the hole no longer stays in the same straight line as A and C.
We will find that when hole B moves away from the straight line, the light will not be visible from A's end. This proves that light moves in a straight line.
