Detailed Solution

The government in Bolivia sold water rights to an MNC(Multinational Corporation). The Bolivian government was under pressure from the World Bank to give up the authority of the local water system. A Multinational Corporation brought these rights from the government for the city of Cochabamba. The cost of water was instantly hiked four times by the corporation. In Bolivia, where the average monthly income was about Rs. 5000, many people received water bills worth Rs. 1000. This resulted in a public outcry. The MNC officials were compelled to leave the city, and the government was compelled to grant all of the protestors' demands. After the MNC contract expired, the municipality's water service was reinstated at the earlier prices.
