The gramabhojaka often got his land cultivated by the slaves and hired labors. The village headman in the Northern part of the country was known as 'gramabhojaka'. The post of gramabhojaka was hereditary. That is, the men who belong to the same family hold the position for generations.  They were usually the largest landowner. The gramabhojaka often got his land cultivated by the slaves and workers. These people (slaves and workers) were hired to work on the land. As gramabhojaka hold a powerful position, He was also appointed by the king for collecting taxes from the villagers. The people belonging to gramabhojaka had different functions.
