The Gurjara-Pratiharas, Rashtrakutas, and Palas were involved in the Tripartite struggle. The Tripartite conflict was a fight fought between these three groups. This conflict was conducted to gain control over Kannauj. This fight lasted over two centuries and was waged generation after generation. This conflict was eventually won by the Rajput Pratihara, whose monarch was Nagabhata II. Nagabhata II established Kannauj as the capital of his realm after taking control of the city.
