The Halbas belonged to Bastar. It is located in Chhattisgarh. Apart from Halbas, various other tribes were Bhatras, Dhurwas, Gonds etc. The people of Bastar might have spoken different languages, but they shared common rituals, beliefs, practices, and customs. For example, Halbas and others believed that the lands they had were gifts from the Earth, and in return, they were expected to take great care of these gifts, i.e., natural resources. To that end, they looked after the resources within their boundaries and hired watchmen to protect the forest.
