Detailed Solution

Given half life T = 20min, and in time t2, the material decays by 23 thus the material left is 13 of its original.

From the equation, NN0=12tT

we get, NN0=13=12t220_________(1)

Similarly, 13 material is decayed in time t1

NN0=23=12t120_________(2)

dividing equation 1 by equation 2,

1323=121=12t2-t120

t2-t120=1

t2-t1=20min

Hence the correct answer is 20.
