Detailed Solution

The Himalayan arc covers a distance of about 2,400 km.
The Himalayas create a 2,400-kilometer-long arc and are the world's highest and most rugged mountain ranges. The distance between them varies from 400 kilometers in Kashmir to 150 kilometers in Arunachal Pradesh. From the Indus to the Brahmaputra, these mountain ranges stretch west-east. The Indo-Australian plate drifted northwards and collided with the much larger Eurasian Plate. As a result, the sedimentary strata that accumulated in the Tethys geosyncline were folded to produce the mountain range of western Asia and the Himalayas. The Himalayas, geologically young and structurally folded mountains, reach beyond India's northern boundaries.
