The historical session of Congress in Lahore was held in the year 1929. The important 1929 Congress session was held in Lahore. The Indian National Congress, a strong political organisation, approved the Poorna Swaraj, or complete independence, motion in Lahore during this session. Members of this session determined that the Congress and Indian nationalists should fight for Purna Swaraj or take complete control of the country. The meeting was presided over by Jawaharlal Nehru, who had Gandhi's support. He raised the Indian tricolour flag on the Ravi riverbank. On this day, nationalists raised the tricolour for the first time. As a result, on January 26, 1930, Congress announced the day of total independence, or Purna Swaraj Day.
