Detailed Solution

The holder of iqta was called muqti. Like earlier Sultans, the Khalji and Tughluq kings delegated authority over various sized provinces to military commanders. These lands were known as iqta and were possessed by muqti or iqtadar. The iqtadar was responsible for maintaining law and order and leading military campaigns in their iqtas. These duties earned revenue, which was collected by the muqtis as their military salary. The muqtis used these proceeds to pay the soldiers. Accountants were engaged during the Khaljis and Tughlaqs to manage the money collected by muqtis. They made certain that the muqtis only took what the state stipulated and kept an army with the necessary number of men.
