If u1 and  v1are the initial distance of the object and the image from the mirror , then
 v1u1=14      ....(1)1v1+1u1=1f  .....(2)
When object moves towards the mirror a distance b then 
 v2(u1b)=12   ......(3)
And  1v2+1(u1b)=1f   ......(4)
On substitution the values and solving above equations, we get  f=2.5cm
