Foreign clothing imports decreased between 1921 and 1922. Due to the Non-Cooperation-Khilafat Movement, the import of foreign clothing fell in value from Rs 102 crore to Rs 57 crore between 1921 and 1922, or by half. Indian textile factories and handloom manufacturing increased as the boycott campaign gained ground, and more people started wearing only Indian clothing instead of clothes from other countries. In many regions, traders and merchants declined to finance or trade foreign goods.
