The Indian National Congress(INC) was founded by A.O. Hume in 1885.
A.O. Hume, a retired civil servant who had relocated to Shimla after retirement, founded the INC in 1885. He established the "Indian National Union" and gathered numerous Indian leaders to discuss the Indian cause. However, Dadabhai Naoroji's suggestion led to the name of the organisation being altered to "Indian National Congress." The American Constitution served as the inspiration for the phrase “Congress”.
