Detailed Solution

The increase in demand for energy is affecting our environment adversely. Two such effects are acid rain and air Pollution.
Acid rain happens because the burning of fossil fuels releases oxides of carbon, nitrogen and sulphur into the atmosphere.
A chemical reaction begins when fossil fuels like coal and petroleum are burnt, and compounds like nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide are released into the air. These substances can rise very high and get mixed and react with oxygen, water, and other chemicals to form acidic pollutants that cause acid rain.
Thus the burning of fossil fuels pollutes the environment.
