Detailed Solution

Indentured labour has been described as the new system of slavery. It was a system of bonded labour. From central India and Tamil Nadu, the most Indian indentured workers came. The indentured labourers were hired based on a promise that they would work under a contract on their employers' plantation only for five years; after that tenure, they could return to India. They were also hired as tea plantation workers in Assam. The working conditions were horrific, and they had no legal rights. Some of the main destinations of Indian indentured migrants were Mauritius and Fiji, Trinidad, Guyana, and Surinam. Tamil migrants usually went to Ceylon (Srilanka) and Malaya (Malaysia).
