The Indian congress was founded in 1885.
The Indian National Congress was instituted in 1885 at Gokuldas Tejpal Sanskrit College in Bombay, with 72 delegates in attendance, and founded by a British member of the imperial civil service Sir Allan Octavian Hume. Thus it is one of the world's largest and oldest political parties. Womesh Chandra Banerjee became its first president. The first meeting took place at Poona. However, it was shifted to Bombay then.
